David Alexander Self, 34, of Dillsburg was thought to be unconscious and it was unclear if he was breathing when Carroll Township police were called to a Blazer's Bodyshop parking lot at approximately 1:36 p.m. on May 22, 2023, as explained in the release.

Soon after officers arrived, they began banging loudly on the driver's side window of Self's running blue Honda Civic. Seconds later he raised his head and turned toward the officer as he "reached for the gear lever but instead of putting the vehicle into park as directed, he placed it in reverse and began backing out onto the roadway," the police said.

A passing car prevented the officers from pursuing so they began yelling "Stop," police explained in the release.

"He backed his vehicle into the roadway and proceeded to flee south in the northbound lane of S. York Road at a high rate of speed," the police said.

Later that day, a local resident called the police to report that a blue Honda Civic drove through their backyard, then turned around and left the area, police detailed in the release.
